If time and space were to align so that I had the budget, figure and occasion - i.e. in an alternate universe - I would be wearing the following next Spring/Summer (in no particular order):

New York Fashion Week - September 2007 - Part 1

As you may have gathered from the relative silence around here, these days I don't have nearly as much time to trawl through the celebrity photos and designer look books as a used too. It's not for want of interest, simply from want of time. I've been busy. Shopping. And traveling a lot. And running a business.

But that doesn't mean I'm not eagerly hunting down the latest from New York Fashion Week. It just means I don't have time to post in such detail. My early trawls through the so far not entirely inspiring looks for Spring 2008 does have me thrilled about at least one thing though: the presence of many waists. Sack dresses begone!

Crap, high waisted pants are definitely back. My take on the place pants should sit is on the hips, not super low and not super high, just in between. And I refuse to move from that flattering position.

New York Fashion Week - Teaser

So here we are again, as Fashion Month begins in New York.

Regular readers may have noticed that I crashed out of my usual coverage method during the middle of the last Paris Fashion Week back in October and didn’t update for a couple of months afterwards. It wasn’t because I was all fashioned out, but more because instead of looking at photos of clothes in France, I went to France and bought clothes and took photos. Oh yes, and did a ton on work.

Since those heady days on the French Riviera – best purchase a tie between $20 leopard ballet flats and a swag of long-sleeved Ts at Petit Bateau – the work thing has not slowed down, but rather increased even further. Which means that my time for online fashion has diminished somewhat, even though I still have every desire to flip through the look books to know what positive and negative trends are going to finally make their way down here in 18 months or so. (And no, I still do not own any leggings. I more than used up my quote of leggings in the early 90s and therefore will not return to them in any circumstances.)

Therefore, based on the recent success of the categorising method of commenting on the big red carpets during awards season, this Fashion Month will be covered by category rather than daily by show. Which also means that I’ll be breaking with my previously self-imposed rule of only showing what I like, rather than what’s awful (unless it’s really, really awful).

Categories and coverage to follow shortly.

Paris Couture - January 2007

Can I have an “Oh Wow!” for Dior’s new couture collection?

So often it’s hard to find beauty under the theatricality of a John Galliano couture show, but here, even with the kabuki make-up and crazy platforms, there was nothing but beautiful. Some of my favourites:

As usual the other designers are for better or worse in another category all together, so I’ll deal with them separately.

Milan Fashion Week - September 2006 - Part 2

Gucci was certainly colourful, but it was when the collection was steered in a more subtle direction that it appealed most.

Substitute “animal” for “colourful” and the same could be said for the Alessandro Dell’Acqua collection.

Alberta Ferretti’s collection was exceptionally pretty.
