I think that we should have a 5 day long weekend twice a year. Christmas not counting.
Easter (just like it used to be), and perhaps September or October. Can be the same time as school holidays, but for everyone else to share.
As I write this, it's Monday evening. In any normal year I'd be back to work tomorrow. I feel like I should be back to work tomorrow. Instead I have another day, with no particular plans as yet.
So far this weekend I've seen friends, I've seen family, I've done nothing, I've done lots of things. And I still have another day to rest or be active, as I choose.
No one has been emailing me, because everyone's been the same.
It's great.
I need it more often.
For me this weekend has gone like this:
Thursday night: beer, takeaway and football at friends' place. Original plan was dinner out but tiredness, snottiness & a sick puppy dog changed that to something relaxing, and dinner will be rescheduled.
Friday: sitting on the couch knitting and half-watching the Bond marathon on Fox Classics. i.e. nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing.
Saturday: sick puppy minding (i.e. lazing on the couch surfing the web); lunch at Miss Marmalade, travelling to and surviving - without too much hassle and coming away with everything on the list - the Hell Is A Long Weekend Trio of Bunnings, DFO and Ikea. It should be noted that the latter two were apologetic that they couldn't deliver on the Saturday, and would first thing (Easter) Sunday morning do? Yes, yes it would.
Sunday: quick emergency trip to visit Frey to deliver a back-up phone and coffee while she waited for said Sunday deliveries, then off to my brother's for roast pork and family catching up. Also, witnessing my 15 month old nephew try chocolate for the first time. Which went like this: Unsure Face, Unsure Face, Oh My Goodness this is the most Fabulous thing I have EVER tasted Face. Classic. Then back to Ikea to pick up a new bed base for Frey - don't ask - and home to collapse on the couch with more Bond marathon.
Monday: help Frey set up her apartment, the two of us putting together the bed and couch without any mistakes and in not bad time. Brunch. A successful new-house bits and pieces trip into the city. Grocery shopping, dishes. Now cooking a big pot of chilli and settling on the couch for the evening.
And I still have a whole other day!
I've seen friends and family. I've done nothing and lots of things. I've helped other people and achieved my own stuff.
And I still have another whole day.
Really, what's not to love about this weekend? Except the performance of my football team, of course
